Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Police say they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been applied in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Police then found numerous other marked cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police state early analysis show the fluid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; officials are currently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the event," they added.
Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.
An important representative said the incident rendered him stunned and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the death of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at residents of migrant background in February 2020.
