Each time a major prize-giving event nears, there’s always a clamor to include of new categories to acknowledge overlooked contributions and fill the hearts of fans with niche passions.
My colleague previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. The same goes for tabletop games, this being a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand is the most urgent and important of all. This is the request: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Categorizing art by genre is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason movie academies avoid this approach. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise within the realm of video games, showing incredible range they hardly constitute a single creative category.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.
Existing Game Classification System
The major gaming awards presently include classifications covering Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types actually cover a lot of ground, making space possible accommodating various experiences.
This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles from a specific release, intense tile-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Acknowledgment Issues
Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.
- A renowned logic title got overlooked completely in 2014
- Another creative title received no nominations during that ceremony
- Popular arranging title was overlooked that year
- Just some puzzle games scraped into niche award types
Importance of Logic Titles
Frequently they represent compact experiences, yet the craft behind logic titles is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among most engaged experiences globally maintaining this status for an extended period.
The legendary block-stacking game challenges popular creative games claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.
Proposal and Rationale
Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. It would be easy to populate five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.
And to reiterate, these represent titles that otherwise have no home in important events. Puzzle game makers operate at the challenging frontier of video game design, creating some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay generations.
